“See! He ain’t white, he’s Italian!”- Stevie Wonder

Back in the day, it was frowned upon for a black band to have more than one white member. So much so that Stevie Wonders people were arguing about hiring 17-year-old Michael Sembello, because they already had a white trumpet player! When Stevie asked Michael what his astrological sign was, Michael (completely unaware of astrology at the time), confused, said, “I’m Italian.”. Stevie laughed and exclaimed, “See! He ain’t white, he’s Italian!”, and the rest is history! Michael would go on to join the band and play a major part in the iconic “Songs In The Key Of Life” album, which ranks in at #4 on Rolling Stones 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time!
